How to Make It Happen!
I have learned over the years several strategies, tips, tricks, and insights that can help one (YOU) move forward with your passion and idea. In short, to be entrepreneurial.
Below is a video wherein I try to capture some of the key ideas and insights regarding HOW you can move forward as an entrepreneurial agent of change, inclusive of video interviews of some folks that started and grew incredible, nationally recognized endeavors (Eliot Washor with Big Picture Learning, Rob Riordan of High Tech High) but also a number of students from former EDU7213 classes that have gone on to pursue their own entrepreneurial work, in their classrooms, schools, districts, and beyond. (And all of these video interviews in full including many more can be seen here.)
Below the video is my list of things to keep in mind as you consider pursuing your own effort ... or efforts! (31m33s)
To keep in mind ...
Start from your PASSION (what you deeply care about)
Identify the need?
What are the possibilities? (Seek out and identify possibilities)
Seek out, brainstorm, stitch and mashup design possibilities
Articulate the need with others and engage them in the development of possibilities
Share your Idea with Anyone and Everyone – you never know where you will find connections, allies, support, and other ideas@
Find Friends, Allies, Comrades and Colleagues
Figure out how to take your Idea into Action – at least to some scale, starting somewhere, starting small (TRY IT - where you can; pilot!)
BE creative (in the idea)
BE innovative (in how you "make it happen!")
Learn how to SELL it – get others ENGAGED by it!!!
Iterate, iterate, iterate! Your idea most likely will shift and turn as you think about it more and engage others in thinking about it with you – AND, most importantly, as you iterate on it as you DO it!
Work to "exponentiate" (think growth, and think abundance!)
Be engaged & have fun (BE your creative and generative self)
And ... finally ... Think BIG, Start Small, Be Strategic
And most important ...
START!
