The Design
READINGS. You will be reading a bunch of material from Hess' volumes on Ed Entrepreneurship to provide you with the landscape of entrepreneurial thought in education, including how others believe it to be a conduit for significant change in education. AND you will each be reading a book related to being entrepreneurial – subsequently sharing a presentation on your book to be shared with everyone else in class so that they can reap the benefits of any insights regarding being entrepreneurial from across the books.
REVIEWING LOTS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ENDEAVORS. I have identified a number of entrepreneurial endeavors for you to review and SEE what is possible. To feed your brain as to what is possible. And to begin to see how entrepreneurial pursuits can push the envelope in our entrepreneurial endeavors. And, potentially, contribute to the transformation of what we now do in the name of education in our communities and public and private education ecosystem.
VIDEOS. I have made a number of videos to share the big ideas of the class. And I have assembled a number of videointerviews with educators who have started some incredible, highly successful national efforts (Bottomline, Big Picture Learning, High Tech High, One Stone) as well as with students from previous EDU7213 classes who have also started their own entrepreneurial ventures (in their classrooms or beyond). The intent of these videointerviews is to showcase some of the big ideas in this class. Namely ... that YOU can also be entrepreneurial!! Other videos also highlight what it means to be entrepreneurial. For inspiration ... and for you to think about what it means to be entrepreneurial.
YOUR OWN BIG IDEA. The biggest part of this class is that I will be asking you to think about the potential development of your own entrepreneurial endeavor ... following the directions I have for pursuing such a potential enterprise. This will include: (1) ideating the enterprise, (2) talking with LOTS of others about it (attempting to rally new ideas, thinking, and potential resources and supports, (3) garnering potential allies, and (4) figuring out how you would and could have TRACTION to get it off the ground and plant the seed in an environment it can grow.
FINAL REFLECTION. I will be looking or a synthesis from you regarding what you have gained from the class, personally and professionally. What have you gained ... and how. And how does it inform your own sense of agency in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors and being a change agent in education and communities.

Ultimately ...
The point is to have you think about yourself as a potential entrepreneurial change agent. How can I make a difference? How would like to make a difference? What is the difference I want to make?!
